Warren County Community College recently celebrated the graduation of its nursing students at the Annual Nurse Education Pinning Ceremony, held this year at Warren Hills Regional High School.
Twenty-four graduates received pins in recognition of their completion of the nursing program. Seven of those graduates were additionally recognized for exemplary performance within the program.
The Associate in Science Degree program for nursing professionals was established in September 2005, making this only the second class to graduate through the program.
The award-winning students came from throughout the area.
The Academic Achievement Award, for the student with the highest GPA in the nursing program’s graduating class went to Carol Boesch-Arvary of Blairstown with a 4.0.
Marlena Buitrago of Oxford was awarded the Professional Nursing Award, for the student who demonstrated clinical excellence on multiple levels.
The New Jersey League for Nursing Award went to a student who is involved in student and community activities, particularly those related to consumer health projects. The award went to Amber Lynn Fishburn of Washington.
The Nurse Education Service Award is for a student who produced quality contributions to the program, college, community and peers. The recipient was Christina Kwiatkowski of Whitehall, PA.
Barbara Eck of Blairstown received the Spirit of Nursing Award, which is presented to a student who demonstrates professional involvement, leadership, and academic achievement.
The Faculty Award, for the student who improved performance, displayed a professional attitude, and an interpretation of nursing practice, went to Pamela Covert of Califon.
Additionally, Kim Nappa received an award in recognition of her 4.0 GPA.
Susanna Olson of Hackettstown, Lynette Smith of Oxford, and Nicole Deemer-Sypniewski of Washington were recognized at the College Achievement Awards ceremony the prior Monday.
Other nursing pin recipients were Kimberly Cianella and Beronica Marquez of Stewartsville, John J. Kennedy of Clinton, Lori LaBar of Belvidere, Min-Min Liahkim, Diane Ward, and Cherif Zoklat of Hackettstown, Carolina McConnell of Columbia, Kim Nappa of Glen Gardner, Antoinette O’Connor and Dana Tucci of Washington, Megan Seas-Gross of Portland, PA, Afton Werner of Great Meadows, Olga Nikitina of Somerville, and Jennifer Stasyshyn of Pittstown. All students who received pins were honored again at WCCC’s commencement ceremony on May 17.
Also honored at the ceremony was freshman Deanna Gelles, who received a $500 scholarship from the Student Nurses Organization and the WCCC Foundation.
